I’m not actively using the humorous pseudonym “Social Justice Wizard” anymore, and correspondingly, decided to retire this blog in favor of one under my real name: Taylan’s Blag
This may seem a bit weird; that I’m separating the blogs, yet not trying to hide the fact that “Social Justice Wizard” a.k.a. “that guy with the cute wizard avatar who’s strangely obsessed with radical feminism” is me, Taylan Kammer. The pseudonym was, after all, originally invented to hide my identity.
The reason for separating the blogs is relatively simple. The SJW pseudonym was a bit like a brand, or persona. The posts herein were written with a corresponding tone: somewhat cheeky, and self-conscious over the fact that some would consider me a “social justice warrior” while at the same time my positions would be considered “bigoted” by others who would also be considered “social justice warriors.”
I’ve since dropped the cheeky act, and also changed somewhat as a person. One one hand, I’m much more relaxed and open with my views critical of the transgender movement, since various big names in feminism (like Alice Schwarzer in Germany) have come forth to support the position, various of grassroots feminist organizations have cropped up just to focus on this issue, and the mainstream has kind of caught on to the problems feminists had been banging on about for years.
On the other hand, I’ve gotten a bit more jaded and sober, perhaps in part due to simple aging, but also in part due to the amount of harassment and abuse I’ve had to face. The conflict with the Guix community last year was definitely the most heavy-hitting. I was basically kicked out by a bunch of bullies, and it took me a while to fully grasp that that’s pretty much literally what happened. I’m still not done processing it.
Anyway, that’s pretty much all. My views haven’t changed too much, but I would express some things differently now if I were to write these blog posts anew. Therefore, they will remain archived here under this retired brand, while I move on with the other one.
(A few of the latest posts have been / will actually be copied over as I see fit.)
